Blessings in a Backpack Recieves $4,000 Feeding the Future Grant

Our agency is thrilled to see Blessings in a Backpack in Wyandotte, receive a $4,000 Feeding the Future Grant from the Agent Charitable Fund of Michigan.  Rob nominated Blessings in a Backpack after noticing ACF grants being awarded to after school and weekend back-pack programs.

“I noticed that many of the grants the ACF has been making were for after school and weekend back-pack programs, so I asked my sister in-law (a Wyandotte school teacher) if her district had a hunger relief program. She directed me to the Dana, the Director, and we got it done.  The funds were greatly needed and the students are overjoyed knowing that their backpacks will be filled for the remainder of the school year.” said Rob.

Blessings In a Backpack is a “neighbor-helping-neighbor” program that is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of school-age children. The goal of the Blessings in a Backpack program is to keep these children from going hungry on the weekends and remove barriers to academic success.

The ACF, whose mission is to end hunger in Michigan, is a donor-designated fund administered through the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture. The Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, a 501(c)(3) governed by Michigan Farm Bureau’s board of directors, positively contributes to the future of Michigan agriculture through leadership and educational programming. Through grant programs like Feeding the Future, Farm Bureau agents, clients and partners provide food and educational programs to Michigan residents struggling with hunger and aid the more than 3,000 hunger-relief agencies throughout the state.
